Re: Bump ratrod?
so, where would you get the glass for something like that? or would you work in something? Kinda like it, wonder if the grill would be something as chopped as the rest off the truck?

on the Orange one (the Painless Truckster), the windshield is out of an MG B. Took 'em almost 3 weeks to cut it down.

Re: Bump ratrod?
Interesting. Like Cab & Bed. Not so the front. But no recent postings, makes one wonder if he sold it or it's on hold, hard to do with young family and new Biz.
IMO he should have used stock truck front, but narrowed like cab and bed, but could probably get away with no hood.
RE: The Glass Question, I have seen some do such a good job with plexiglass no one could tell, and 1/100 the hassle of cutting real windshield.

Re: Bump ratrod?
I've been wanting to do something along the lines of this for a while now, but it's just so hard to make them look right. I don't really like the way his is starting to look(front end mainly..) but it's not mine.

I'm not a fan of "rat" anything; just looks unfinished. I do like and appreciate the craftsmanship and fabrication skills, very much. I do not like the use of bags in something with performance
possibilities.
possibilities.

Re: Bump ratrod?
its kind of neat. i didnt care for the engine i saw in the one thread. or that the tires stick way outside the bed. that looks stupid. it needs fenders on it.

Re: Bump ratrod?
Yeah, had potential but a Ranger front suspension and wrong era grill ruined it for me. I think I'd rather make something folks will compliment vs. laugh at and sitting next to the Dodge it looks funny, not cool...

Re: Bump ratrod?
The grill doesn't look right. There must be a way to make a narrowed '67-'69 steel grill look right. Maybe find a way to bring the bump from the doors to the grill, but have little or no fenders. A front end without fenders just doesn't look right on a "modern" body. makes sense on a Model A, or even a 50s truck, but not on the 60s and up.
Generally I can appreciate the work that goes into building a rat rod, and even more so that that goes into a custom, but I still like mt trucks looking mostly stock with some mechanical upgrades. I guess I am just stuck on the truck thing. How the hell would I haul my firewood with that thing?

Re: Bump ratrod?
Guess you have to be a fan of rat rods (which I am) to like this build. Appreciating the work goes without saying, but I actually like most of what he has done. I agree that the front end needs some work, but the back third of the truck just rocks. Of course, I say that as owning a regular bump first and having something like this as a secondary toy.
Anyway, I have had the idea to do something like that for a while but lack the skills. Although, my idea was to do something similar with a crew cab bump and not have a bed. The rear of the cab would need some work since it would be the back end of the car, but the idea was to use a crew cab bump to make a rat rod "car" (think 30's Model A), unlike the "truck" he made here. The back doors would have to be welded shut and shaved as the wheels would be just outside the doors making them useless, but that goes with the fabrication skills needed to do something like this.
Anyway, thanks to the OP for posting the link as I really love the rod he built.
