Australian members help with shipping info

Post by westco »

I sold a pair of Fox offroad shocks to this gentleman in Australia for a total of $1500.00 with shipping, I have already sent him bank routing and account number for transferring purposes and he's asking for more info. I understand the full name which I already gave but also my residential address, does this sound right for shipping things to Aus...I have never shipped out of country and not sure of this.

Email from buyer:

Sorry for the delay I run my own business and got called out on a two day job and only got in yesterday, i went to my bank to do the transfer and they need some more details from you.
Can i have your full name, the name on your bank account, your residential address and I need a swift/bic code from you bank, apparently all banks have one for international transactions.
Sorry this is dragging out a bit.
Thanks for your patience.
Daniel.

just tell him to pay you with paypal. money and wire transfers could be bad news. i would talk to your bank before proceeding.

I forgot to mention I sold these on ebay...first I was trying to avoid anymore fees, this sale cost me $108.00 if he pays me with paypal that's another 3%, although $45 isn't that much I didn't want the buyer claiming he never received the shocks and me having to give paypal back the money.

So my condition to him was that, yes i ship them to Aus, but he had to pay me with a bank money order or transfer which I don't mind, but now it seems like that's a lot of personal info....I will check with my bank tomorrow to confirm this is normal.

I'd have your bank work with their bank, less personal drama that way. Each country has it's own banking laws and regulations so bank to bank should be smoothest and most secure.

you can always ask that they send it as a gift to get around those fees. it sometimes can help you with under estimated shipping costs. when you find out you messed up on a shipping quote.

I just went through a similar deal with a guy from Finland wanting to purchase a rare plane model kit from me on eb. He claimed they didn't have cheques anymore and he wasn't on paypal (no feedbacks yet on eb either) yet he wanted all the same personal info for the bank transfer. Might have worked out if he'd had his bank get in touch with me but I'm kind of cynical about things like this (born in the dark but not last night...)
There's a certain point where bending over backwards can get you the same feeling as bending over forward

I've only ever done the Pay pal thing for ebay buys into Australia

That request for info sounds very strange to me, I've never had any request for that info from banks / financial institutions over here - even when i money ordered a guitar from Japan.

Sounds odd to me mate, I'd go Pay pal to be safe
