U.S. Jobs coming back to America

With all the bad economic news we are having, this is great news.
Thought everyone could use some good news for a change.

Anybody heard about the oil boom in North Dakota. This is encouraging.. http://www.npr.org/2011/09/25/140784004 ... rth-dakota I come from a long line of oil field workers and if I was 30 years younger I'd be headed that way! You'd make enough money roughnecking in a year to pay cash for a house. Of course, you'd basically have to dedicate your life for that year to practically nothing but work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep. I could do that crap 30 years ago but now I'm just too darn old and out of shape.

A few years ago I spent some time in North Dakota and working the rigs is about the only option for a good paycheck. I spent about two months out there, hardest work I have ever done in my life but its worth the pay if you can stick it out. I worked for Cyclone, they are known for being one of the most brutal, but they also pay the best. Good way to go if you dont have a family and want to try something different.

Yeah, it's hard work but pays good. When I was in my early 20's I quit a management job to go work on an offshore drilling rig, 7 on, 7 off. 1981-1983 and making $1000-$1500/wk. Work 12 hrs/day for 7 days then off for 7 days. Two years later the bottom fell out and my rig got stacked so I went back to another management job. Made a lot of money and had a lot of fun. At least I think I did...maybe I did.....they tell me I did....did I? That two years is pretty much a blur to me now.

My pops worked off shore for a while in the early 80's until he started hanging iron for the union.

Not only North Dakota, PA is also having their boom.
I work in the gas business here in PA and almost every company is hiring and half the guys I run into are pretty green (including myself).
It wouldn't be too bad if all of the applicants could pass a drug test.....

And, US Steel in McKeesport, PA the old National Tube Works is up and running again, new signage, hiring, making pipe for the pipelines going in all over the place here.
I wonder how many people in the area have said "I'd bet a million bucks US Steel never comes back to McKeesport".

Heavy equipment work and sales is doing well. Got a water truck? Come to PA and you can work around the clock.
Road repairs that the gas companies are performing because of all the heavy equipment on secondary roads.
Mechanics are in short supply for the big gas compression engines.
There's jobs for everyone from roustabouts to supervisors, if you want to move to PA.
A lot of companies have already thinned their ranks by bringing in guys from other areas.

And in South Texas. I recently got hired in a oil & gas related job. I am a truck driver and move Schlumberger oilfield equipment. Lots of comanies keep coming to the area and setting up offices.

There has also been a natural gas boom here in Arkansas over the last 3-4 years. We have had some other large manufacturing companies come in too. There is a new Caterpillar plant that opened in North Little Rock within the last two years. They produce road graders there.

Awesome news indeed! Locally here a new VW plant / Amazon and a few more "big dogs" have came to town. I continue to pray for those out of work though as it's been a long tough row to hoe for many.

I guess American workers and our unions have been beaten down enough that our wages can compete with China now. I guess this is good news.

Maybe I am too pessimistic. I hope it is good news and that people can get back to work at decent wages. Until people are working and earning things can't get better.
