soft riding 4x4,looking for stiffer ride.

Post by mdbaker42 »

How do all? Ok, stats. 1970 highboy,360 ci,stock leaf front and rear, new rancho 5000s all around, dana 40/60 bla, bla, bla. So my question is, I think my springs could use a little boost. What's a good cost saving way to stiffen up a little bit without any added lift, I would like to keep my stock hight.looking forward to any and all ideas. Thanks, Mike.

I purchased new leaf springs for my 1970 F250 4x4. After 40 plus years, the age and miles catch up!

Thanks, what do you know about re-arcing or helper springs? The truck is not at the top of the project list but is still a working part of this family. Any idea of the rough cost of the re-arcing process? I have'nt looked everywhere, rockauto, JCW.just show helpers for the rear, do folks put them all around?

Thanks, Mike.

I didn't bother comsidering re-arcing, I figured it was easisest to do it the full monty so to say, and it should be good for another 40+ years.......It depends on what your long term plans are, I suppose!

Well, if the ride is bouncy, how about new higher end shock absorbers?

You could be right. I thought the rancho 5000 was a good shock, was I wrong? Has their quality changed in the last 20 some years?

One month,or two. I think because this truck is original and from montana's mountain country the springs are just tired but what do I know? without removal and factory measurement I would'nt know. I drive it, after the new shock install and it feels spongey. Could be the stock spring set up but still I would like to find a way to stiffen it up just a touch, oh and thanks for your thoughts.
