Hello. I just recently acquired a 1972 F100 4WD pick up and looking to restore it. The truck currently has manual steering and I was hoping to convert to power. Doing some searching it doesn't seem to be that popular of a thing to do. Anybody out there have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Re: 1972 steering question
Is yours an automatic or manual with three on the tree? The automatic columns are much easier to come by. There are some good articles in the Tech section of the main page. I'm not actually sure what the differences are between a two wheel drive that I did versus a four wheel drive.

Re: 1972 steering question
I am in the same boat, with the same truck. I picked up a complete power steering conversion kit off of ebay. It was spendy, but came with everything I need to do the conversion. I am handy with tools, but new at this restoration thing so I wanted to make it as easy as possible. I haven't had time to start the project. My truck has spent it's whole life as a plow truck, and that's what I have been using it for and haven't had time between storms. I am hoping to post some pictures as I get going on the project.

Re: 1972 steering question
I've never seen a 3-speed 4WD truck but as the posts indicate, an automatic or 4-speed conversion is pretty straightforward and all of the parts are availabe on Ebay or junk yards. You didn't say which engine you have but I suspect it's a 360 or 390FE, so the PS pump brackets are also available same sources.
You will need to make sure that you get the right steering box as they differ from 2WD from 4WD. Also, there other bits & pieces you will need such as the firewall bracket (which for some strange reason, Ford made them differently.)
If you could find a donor truck and rob all of the parts needed (including the pitman arm) you would be miles ahead.
