Engine Perch Mod for PS
Hey y'all, I am currently undertaking the task of converting my 1967 f100 to power steering. I know that the drivers side engine perch has to be modified to accommodate the larger Saginaw steering box. What is the best/strongest way to modify the perch?

Just take an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and whack a chunk out on the inside corner. Photos here at the bottom of the page http://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm

I have read the power steering article a few times it just seemed unclear on the topic of the perch. Are there any concerns about strength with cutting a chunk out of the perch?sargentrs wrote:Just take an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and whack a chunk out on the inside corner. Here's one that was done by my dad. After he passesd away I replaced it with the correct one I received from another fordification member. I just don't believe in hacked parts that could fail. Late 69 and up had the correct one power or manual steering. All of the bumps have the holes in the frame for power steering perch's. Easy to convert. I hung this on my garage wall as a reminder of him. The old guys do any thing that worked to save money and time. I say do it right with the correct one they are available.
