Power Steering Pump Bracket (Spacers Required?)

OK. This is a long story, but my truck had the car power steering pump mounting bracket on it when I bought it. This meant that I could not fit an appropriate oil filter on the engine, so I set out to find the appropriate bracket.

I checked all the yards around here and wasn't able to turn one up, so I bought one of eBay and I have it in hand. Here's the problem - when I try to put it on, there is a ridge on the water pump that keeps the bracket holes from seating all the way against the mounting holes on the water pump and the head.

Here are some pictures that show what I'm talking about.




So the question is - can someone confirm that there are spacers that are supposed to be installed behind the two water pump mounting points? Is there also a spacer that should be installed at the head mounting point? Does anyone have the size of the spacer?

This is good timing. I was picking parts from a wrecking yard a few months back and I noticed there are spacers in some of the accesories. I rememebr thinking " oh crud youd better remember where those go, those are jesus spacers" If im back out at my dads ill grab one and take pics of it and measure it up if somebody doesnt beat me to it.

If your pulleys don't line up then I would conclude that there are spacers required.

I just want to know how they came form the factory. I know that pulleys have to line up.

I don't know if this is the appropriate bracket or if my aftermarket water pump is the problem or if spacers are required or not and i'm trying to back into the info.

All I need is someone to spend a minute looking under their hood and my question will be answered.

Here's mine, it looks like the previous owner has cut that lip off. I can't measure the spacer since the truck is at the shop but the one on the head is about 5/8-3/4".
I was screwing with this yesterday and if I put the spacer from the head on the waterpump it tilts the whole thing too far forward at the top.

For anyone that may stumble upon this thread at a later date:

I found an FE with a stock water pump in my local area and was able to confirm that My Edelbrock 8805 water pump has a slightly different shape than the factory water pump. On the factory water pump, the bracket appears to fit on the flat machined faces with no spacers. I cut my bracket back similar to the one shown by Canonman67. I will take pictures and confirm that this was the correct action to take when I attempt to install the bracket.

Final Final Update:

Here's a shot of the notch i took out of the power steering bracket to get it to sit correctly on my Edelbrock water pump. I'm just putting this out here for anyone else that happens to stumble across the same problem.

So the correct answer to my original question is that no spacer is required on the two water pump mount points and a 3/8" spacer is required on the head bolt point.
