Rear brakes dragging.

Post by Busboy »

My 67 f100 had the rear brakes almost on fire after a 10 mile trip. The park brake cables have plenty of slack, the rear adjusters are completely backed off also. The brake pedal pushrod has plenty of slack as well. It only has a pressure differential valve, no metering function whatsoever so I don't think that can be the problem. Everything is new, and I mean everything. Any ideas?

Well it's been a few days , and no input so I'll offer up some guesses .

New flex hose?

Is the backing plate worn where the shoes ride, and holding them out ? they can be welded up and ground smooth.

Are the new brake shoes the correct width and diameter? Ford has been known to change things around , as well as previous owners.

I peeled back the rubber boot on the back of the master cylinder and discovered that there was a washer that was lodged sideways in the master cylinder bore that was preventing the piston from returning all the way. Problem solved.
