Correct Front Shock Length

Post by Subzero »

I bought some KYB shocks off summit for my truck. I accidentally bought 2 pairs of front shocks instead of a full set. But both pairs are different lengths, one is 17.5 inches the other is 14.5 inches measuring the actual body of the shock itself- not the stud or the mounting eye. Which is the correct length for a stock height truck? Summit said both are correct but I know too long of a shock can allow the coil spring to move when it's lifted up on a jack.

I solved this one, went to Autozone and bought a mid grade Gabriel shock for the truck to compare it to my KYB shocks and return it. The 14.5 inch length is the correct one according to Autozone. On another note, the Gabriel shock is way more soft than the KYB. I'm not building a race truck but I think the stiffer ride might help out some :2cents: . Glad I spent the extra $50 and got the KYB ones.
