73-79 Disc brake seap

Post by ponyexpress »

Hi guys,

I am doing the 73-79 disc brake swap on my 71.
I purchased a 79 front end with new calipers and rotors from someone doing a Crown Vic conversion. My question is, can I use my 71 pitman arm or do I need a 79 pitman arm? Thanks

I don't think the brake configuration makes a difference. I believe the differences in pitman arms relate to power steering or non-power steering and 4wd vs 2wd.

Read the Fordification article on disc swaps and component differences... it matters more whether equipped with PS or not.

It's been a couple years but I'm pretty sure I just swapped out the arms and spindle assy's. Mine was a junk yard grab up on the side of a mountain and I didn't want to drag the steering stuff the 1/2 mile down to the truck. Just dragging the arms down was a PITA.
