Not an old ford but a new to me old project!

Post by ford4x4fun »

Since my truck is off to paint I needed a project!

1984 Sumerset Houseboat, it has a 140 Inline 4 Mercruiser powering it. Should be a lot of fun this summer!

It has set for a long time, so just a real good clean up. Go through the engine/outdrive, make sure it isn't going to leave me stranded and hopefully make a lot of memories.

Hasn't moved in 10 plus years, had to get pulled for 15 minutes wile I fixed a fuel delivery issue, but it did successfully make an 18 mile trip. Got it pulled to get all new boots in the outdrive, new pump and getting anything else it might need. Along with a good hull pressure washing!

Aha...and Army guy playing squid/sailor LOL!
And to think of how many of my Army and USMC buddies raz me for being an ex squid...

Two happiest days in a boat owners life, (coming from owning a $50K airboat for 6 years)?
THE DAY THE OWNER BUYS IT-AND THE DAY THE OWNER SELLS IT lol!

I saw many deals like this when I moved back to Chattanooga and almost traded the home for lake life, (but hiking round the lakes in the winter made me wake up to that hard cold lifestyle)!

That will make many good memories for sure and good decision to replace the boots first thing.
Would also recommend getting not one but two, (or even three for this boat) bilge pumps, (if it has much of a bilge)!
I'd had top of the line automatic bilge pumps fail me and luckily the next morning not enough water to list the boat much.

Ha ha, you are correct, since age 6 I have always had a boat, this is by far the biggest ever! Someone summed it up correctly it has all the problems of a Boat, Vehicle and a Home!!! I guess there are worse things than being an Ex-Squid, you could have always been Coast Guard  I should probably not talk no crap about them though they might have to come save me as later on today. It is making its 2nd 18 mile trip and I wasn't paying 150 an hour to have them work on the motor as I can do that myself!

Well wish me luck I will post some updates this evening if I make it successfully!

A bonus current status of my truck!

Trucks looking good Billy!

"Puddle jumpers" is what we called the Coasties, (until they've seen 45' seas and 90' swales like i saw in the North Atlantic off of Denmark they'll always be that LOL!

How'd the boat do-$150 an hour is highway robbery!

Thanks Everyone,

The boat had a successfullish trip back down the lake. 18 miles after a new carb it was running like brand new. Got within 30ft of my dock and the coupler went out, the kids working the dock had to jump in and pull me in. I was the "Big Dog" until I wasn't ha ha. Well to replace the coupler I have to pull the motor so a new learning experience for me I guess!
