Re: Why 67 -72?
i like them because when i was comeing up as a kid everyone had a bumpside truck. When i was 12-13 my dad would let me drive by myself to bring wood to the house from the wood shed, I thought that was the greatest feeling of driving his truck by myself for a 200 yard round trip. Ive owned 7 bumps in the past and "Built ford tough" says it all for me.

Re: Why 67 -72?
I just stumbled into mine. I didn't have any particular interest in the year range.
In general, as far as I'm concerned, the older the better when it comes to trucks.
I think the 67-72's look ok, but I'm more worried about the work they will do with
the ones I have now. My 68 with it's ute bed and camper top looks like some
kind of African safari vehicle.. :/ No show truck is it..
I'm sure some here will cringe, but as far as looks alone, I prefer the 67-72
chevy trucks over the fords. But I think the fords will take more abuse for work.
Actually, the two fords I have now are the first ford trucks I've ever had I think..
I've had a 66 chevy stepside, and also a 72 chevy stepside. I also had a 78 chevy
3/4 ton for a while.
I think the 72 stepside was the best looking truck out of all of them.
I just like the lines and hoods on those. And for looks I prefer stepsides vs
style sides. I like the old classic rear fender and running board look.
Now my dad had a 73 Ford F-100 for a good while. It had a 302 and a 3 speed.
Almost the same as my 74 F-100, except my 74 has a 240 and a 3 speed.

My grandfather had a 69 ranger when I was a kid. So I got one in high school to build a clone. But it was in to rough of shape, so I sold it and yrs later found a 72 in near perfect condition. They are a very well built truck.....Built Ford Tough

Re: Why 67 -72?
I enjoy these trucks #1 because I like the body lines, #2 It's a Ford, #3 I had a 67 Mustang and liked that it didn't have all the "safety" crap and added weight, so I got a 67 F-100. #4 The 4wd version in 67 is quite rare, so I am preserving a piece of history and will enjoy it to the fullest. #5 The simplicity is my main selling point. I can work on it any time and anywhere, as long as I have the parts, which will be my mission of keeping 2 of parts that tend to need replacing.

Hey ToughOldFord, I think you hit the bull's eye with your response. I suspect that you've answered the exact question 68FORDJBM had in mind!ToughOldFord wrote:67 to 72 is a specific design of the Ford pickup. 73-79 is a different design and the 61-66 is of another.
All the other replies are excellent and interesting also though!
I stumbled in to this era of truck. A year or two before I got my license, my father told me that our neighbor had a Ford pickup for sale, and he thought I might want to buy it. It was a "school bus" yellow, light duty 1972 F250 with a 300-I6, three on the tree, and drum brakes all around. Here's a thread with some photos of it: Photos of my trucks 12-14 years ago..
I was a little intimidated by this unknown, powerful, vintage thing, and that made it very exciting!
After that experience I was hooked. I like the solid feeling these trucks have on the road, and the amazing way they handle rough, off road conditions. I like the way the hood sticks way out when you're sitting behind the wheel, and how the hump on the hood makes it look so stout!
I think tough, full size trucks make great first cars for adolescent guys, since their blunt utilitarian nature lends itself to activities that develop a healthy masculinity, such as learning to be being useful, reliable, and hauling things for people. I might have turned out differently if I'd started with with a "soft" vehicle that wasn't capable of any real work! Of course, each individual's experience is sure to vary a lot when it comes to growing up.

Thanks again for all of your responses. I'm going to give a presentation on my truck at my local Toastmasters club next week and plan on using some of your responses to explain why I chose this truck.

I like them because the side bump resembles that of a '64 Galaxie 500 XL, my favorite Ford car.

Re: Why 67 -72?
for me its the emotional attachment my 69 was the first truck i ever got to drive and learned to drive in. My dad bought the truck about 8 months before i was born in 1980. so the truck has been in my family for 30 years. and only had one owner before my dad bought it. i am currently restoring it to its formed glory in memory of my Dad with the knowledge that he gave me with working on vechicles

I too was born in `68, and my Dad bought the `69 new off the dealer showroom floor 3 months after I was born. I grew up riding in this truck, I learned to drive in it, and even took my first driving test with it.
Oh, and the first time I got the keys to take a date out in it...

He passed it to me when he died, and I plan to do the same with my son.

Re: Why 67 -72?
Love this body style best, so it's looks, for one. Secondly, my Dad, who died in '05, had several when I was little, so they help me keep a sentimental and emotional attachment to him. I plan on passing my truck on to one of my kids, so I hope they will remember me and the truck with the same fondness I had for my Dad when he was alive.

Re: Why 67 -72?
Learned how to drive at 10 years old in one, my grandpa's. Lived out in the boonies and he'd let me and my brother drive it on the old dirt roads. I believe it was probably a '68 or '69 short box cuz it had the full metal grill with no plastic inserts. I don't remember much else about it except the 3 spd column shift and the feel of power under my azz. Musta been an FE. Other than that, not too fond of the early-mid 60's body style and the dents started getting too complicated. I like the simplicity of the bumps and they just look too dam tough!

Re: Why 67 -72?
My dad had a 71 and one of the things i remember about it was loading it down with firewood, all the way to the axle, and listened to that old 360 grunt it out of the woods. I have owned a 64, 69,72, and now a 67. I am just an old Ford lover and cant help it! haha, old Fords rule, then and now.

Re: Why 67 -72?
You just can't help what you love.
When I was 16 I wanted the 48 Ford pickup my dad had for sale for $75. He sold it to a friend, told me I didn't need it, and to be happy with my 49 Ford 2 door, (car), I was, but I will never forget the 48. I'm now 60 and on my 6th Ford pickup.
I agree with what has already been said, it is due to years spanning body styles.
