F250 to F100 rear spring swap

Post by snake »

Has anyone swapped F250 rear springs for F100 springs on a 3/4 ton to smooth up the ride? IF so, did you have any issues?

I want to keep the floating D60 rearend in my F250 but would like to soften the ride a bit. I don't plan to load it to the point that the F250 springs are necessary.

The other option would be to remove half the F250 springs.

Just looking for experiences from what others have done and hopefully shorten my learning curve.

Thanks

If your perches are the same width (width of springs) and distance apart (length of springs) it should be plug and play. I THINK (as in not positive) that the 1/2 ton springs are wider than the 3/4 ton. Easy to find out with tape measure. Just an fyi, your ride height may change when you do this...you might need a small lift block to keep your truck at the same stance.

Cheers.

I think the spring bushing part number is the same for both so i concluded from that that the springs are the same width. But I already have both so putting a tape measure on them will confirm. I don't mind that it will sit a little lower too.

The spring eye bolts are larger on F250 springs. You can change the F100 bushings to larger F250 bushings or drill them out. I removed leaves from my F250 pack and now have a combination of F100 and F250 springs for the ride and height I want.

Ah - yes, i see now that the bushings are different. Must have read something wrong before.

I'd be interested in hearing details on your F250/F100 spring combo setup.

If you aren't lowering it any, a F100 pack might be better. Right now I have 4 of the 8 original F250 leaves, the bottom overload is upside down and one of the middle leaves is a F100 added in, for 5 total. It's pretty soft, but I'm still playing with it. I have rear lowering shackles and moved the front hanger up some too, to lower it about 4-5 total with the springs. Just taking out the leaves lowered it quite a bit. The top overload had to be removed, but the frame pads could stay, if you have that setup.
